In Sync
Happy New Year! I'm excited because next week the studio is getting a 16-track head-stack for the Otari 2-inch tape decks. We've been using 24-track heads, and the added track width will make those drums HUGE I tell you! I will no longer suffer from signal-to-noise ratio envy of all those studios out there with 1-inch 8 tracks and 2-inch 16 tracks. In the words of my friend, Paul Hoaglin: "Sixteen is a beautifully self-selecting number of tracks. It's like the AA adage, "one's too many and a hundred ain't enough.' Decisiveness while tracking is a seemingly lost attribute these days." And even better yet, studio tech Tim Hochstedler recently spent a morning reconfiguring the studio sync and house clock functions. Everything is now dialed in with subatomic accuracy. Pro Tools chases perfectly to LTC, and everyone is happy. Flying back and forth from tape to the computer has never been easier. I think 2009 is going to be gangbusters. Bands are already booking into April and May. Call soon to get your band camp on!

In reality, three is at least one too many, and DigiDesign ain't enough. Direct-to-disc stereo is the only way to go!
Pretentiousness while discussing track width is a seemingly common attribute these days, at least if you're a brain-dead pseudo-bass player who couldn't get a clue if it were rammed up his nether regions.
Glad it's syncing up finally. Now you can do that cover of the entire Message From The Country album and add the ADT intentionally! ;-)
