The Spider and the Fly

Last night I mixed the final song for Southern Belle's first official CD release, "Hurry Up and Thrill Me," and the record is now off for mastering. The song is called Pacific [mp3], and I just love Nicole Perry's voice. The song was initially recorded live when she was in Hurah Hurah, and I begged her to redo it. So, it will be the final cut in a 50:02 masterpiece of 17 songs. The Mercury is doing a write up on the group soon, and their MTV spot filmed here in the studio will air TBA. Bands that have been whooping it up this week include The Excellent Gentlemen, The Winebirds, and Paper Brain, all great musicians making superb recordings. Newly acquired vintage mics include 2 AGK d12e, an AGK d224e, and a Beyerdynamic M420, all recommended by David Friedlander. Vintage King Audio is finally shipping the Neve 32264 limiters that will drop into the Neve console frame next week. On a sad note, my wife's mother, Jean Harmon (1935-2008), passed unexpectedly. She was a great lady, an English teacher, a poet, an activist, and an all around inspiration to everyone. We will miss her very much. This is her reciting The Spider and the Fly [mp3] (the short version for kids, where the spider doesn't get the fly at the end). More amazingly super exciting band camp news will be posted soon, but I can't reveal what it is yet!
